Which is the best free parental control which can be downloaded from the net for my desk top?

1. It should not slow down my system and should be easy to switch over between normal mode and controlled mode

2. It should be unbreakable (my kids r really smart .. lol )Which is the best free parental control which can be downloaded from the net for my desk top?
How about telling your kids if they go to sites you don't want them to go to, or download porn, etc, you will take away their computer for 1 year. Plus, any other things you know that they would hate for you to do to them. It's easy to password protect the pc, and lock them out if needed. Just make sure they don't have ay admin rights themselves, or you may find YOU locked out of the pc!

In other words, be a good parent, and the rest will follow, provided YOU follow through. You can check internet history, cookies, etc, and you can TELL what they are doing when you aren't looking... Of course, don't let them KNOW that's how you are keeping track of them.

All this works well, you can see if your kids are controllable for this, and doesn't cost a bunch.Which is the best free parental control which can be downloaded from the net for my desk top?
There is a utility available through CNET at http://www.downloads.com called K9 Web Protection.Check it out,and read the reviews to see if this is what you're looking for.Just type K9 in searchbar. Also you can find other programs by typing parental control. Only choose the ones with the highest rating and that are free.
Just a question.

Would you pay a small amount in order to know your kids are safe?

Consider spending some money on a really great software in and that it's an investment in your kid's security.

We used to have a program, years ago called Big Brother. I just checked and it's available for $29.95 on line.

It could have saved my daughter's life and for the mere cost of $29. 95, it was totally worth it.

My daughter is now 18 and safely away at college. When she was about 12/13, we caught her on line on some kid a web site (who knows if it was legit or not) asking kids to sign up to be pen pals. She posted her name, age, address and information about herself. It was the perfect chance for a child predator to worm their way into her life.

She lost Internet privileges for 6 months after that and had some very stern discussions with us about what could have happened to her.

We saw many things that we ignored that my kids did/said on line that we wrote off as being typical kids. We checked in about once a week and did an overview of what they were up to.

I know my kids might have been unhappy about Big Brother, but their lives were certainly more important to save. I think it was a great choice.
I use K9 Web Protection

http://www1.k9webprotection.com/

I use this on my little brothers computer and it works fine.

If a website is blocked then you simply unblock with a password.

Or you can block an innapropriate website.

I think its great but i dont really know if its easy to get past?

Good Luck
Sorry, but there isn't one like that. With Kids knowing more and more about Computers you have to pay for the good ones. Try looking on Ebay or something like it. Some program can have up to 3 uses in one CD so the person who bought it will usually sell the CD for cheap on Ebay.
there is no unbreakable parental Control program, period. sorry, that's not the answer you were looking for, but it's true.
I don't know of any free parental controls other than Vista Parental Controls (built into Vista)
