You need to create a .ascx file. In this file you are going to lay out the html portion of the control just as you would in any .aspx file and then code it the same way you would your .aspx file.


Now when you want to use it you need to register it. This is also really simple. You need to write out a tag kind of like this one:

You'll need to use javascript or another scripting language to have it respond to an action without a postback. It's a good idea though to keep your server side checks as well, just in case a user has scripting disabled on their browser.

C# ASP .NET - RangeValidator control error?

I have a RangeValidator control which I want to use in conjunction with the date value in a custom calendar control. The control has a Text property which contains the date value, but the RangeValidator doesn't seem to just be able to validate the control as a whole, so I'm trying to reference the Text.





When I do, I get:





Unable to find control id 'WebCalendar:Text' referenced by the 'ControlToValidate' property of 'valMyControl'.





Could someone please help me find the proper control ID I should be using, if applicable, to reference the Text property of my calendar control?C# ASP .NET - RangeValidator control error?

if wanted to design your own calendar then take a textbox and place a small calendar picture / button near the text box. when the user clicks on it just open a popup window with the .aspx page that contain calendar control, when the user select date from the control just close the popup window, but befor this you have to put the selected date in the text box of main page.

C++ .Net Flickering Control?

Hi, i have a control in C++ using .Net, i am drawing a filled Elipse in the OnPaint function however when ever i resize the control it flickers whilst the resize if happeneing.





I have tried setting double buffers however this makes things worse. I have tried setting several of the different control syles but they make no difference. Any suggestions?

Sync display dosen't really apply to Windows, imagine you had 20 controls in a dialog, you synced before painting each control and your monitor was running at 60 hz. It would take a third of a second to redraw your dialog! I think there's a better answer.





The problem maybe that Windows is clearing the background of the window, the background of your control and then telling you to paint it. The paint message could come quite a while after clearing the background, thats where the flicker comes in.





Firstly, make sure the windows with the control on has the WS_CLIP_SIBLINGS style. This tells windows not to paint behind a control window.





Next make sure your control is not responding to WM_ERASEBKGND. That means its window class need to have 0 for the handle to its background brush.





Finally, fill the background when you paint the control. If the Ellipse function is too slow so that you still see a flicker, use buffering (as you suggested) by rendering to a memory DC and blitting to the screen.





When you call invalidate, try to make sure you it will redraw without erasing the background. I use RedrawWindow rather than InvalidateRect as it offers more control (I program the API directly).





If you are resizing lots of controls its better to use DeferWindowPos. This makes a list of controls that will be resized then processes them quickly. This reduces delays between resize and paint when moving many windows.





Paint message are low priority, they are moved down the message queue by sizing, timers, mouse, keyboards, so you have to apply some control to them. Mail me if you're still stuck.C++ .Net Flickering Control?

I have a DropDown control (with AutoPostBack = true) which I'm trying to use to make a couple of other controls Visible when a specific value is selected.





The controls I want to manipulate the visibility with on the .ASPX page don't have their Visible property set to any default value, so they start out as being Visible. In the code behind, I have statements in Page_Load to hide them.





I'm using the SelectedIndexChanged event, and the handler looks something like this:

Make sure that in the Page_Load event, you have If(!isPostBack){} around the code that hides your controls.





On a side note, I'd recommend doing this via javascript on the client, if it's at all possible. I'm very anti-postback these days.

Check to see if the asp:DropDownList has AutoPostBack=True in its declaration. If it doesn't, then add it, as otherwise the events won't fire.

This will enter debug mode.

In my Asp.net page I use a Repeater contol to display data read from an access database using SQL qurey. I do this using an Oledb connection using the following lines of code.

The System.Web.UI.WebControls.Repeater control contains a collection of RepeaterItems. You can access it using the Items property.


I believe it won't show things in the footer template if there are no items, so you can put stuff that should show there (I know for a fact that the header template does this).

Okay, I don't know how much my answer will help, but you should try it anyways.





1- Delete the reference (if anything has been added)


2- Add a new folder to your project and name it something like ';Dependencies';


3- Copy your dll assembly to the added folder (Dependencies)


4- Now try to add a reference choosing the dll copied into your added folder (Dependencies)

I don't believe you can register just the Control key as a hot key. The RegisterHotKey function creates a hot key which raises an event that your program can then process. You can stipulate that the Control key (or the Alt key or the Shift key, or any combination of them) be pressed along with the specified ASCII key, but not by itself.





If you need to detect when just the Control key is pressed, use the My.Computer.Keyboard. CtrlKeyDown property (see source link below).

In my opinion, the best way to get away from all that is to prioritize your time and tell yourself ';Studying is the most critical element in your life.'; You need to get your grades up and pass with flying colours.





Then you tell yourself, you will reward yourself with some TV, surfing the net or other things in your life after you're satisfied with a time frame where you studied for some bit and are exhausted.





That means you should create some time schedule and allocate your studying time effectively. Thus, if you studied for two hours straight, then give yourself a 30 minute break and watch some T.V. or something like that.





Always have a time management schedule infront of you, prioritize your time with studies first, and you'll see wonders in your life hopefully.

The textbox can use an onkeydownevent; however this is handled by javascript. You would not want asp.net to have an onkeydownevent because it would repost the page everytime a user pressed a key.

What is Configuration management and Version control in .Net?

In large software companies where multiple teams may be working on a single product there is the need to control what versions or configurations of a file/subsystem there are in case of:





1) One team overwrites a file that was recently changed by another team... wiping out their changes





2) A new file was written over by an old version of the file





3) All teams don't know which version may have the debug configuration on and which one has it off.





4) What version and configuration file is going to be in the next version of the official software product.





Version control is crucial in large companies where they have to know a version of a file or in the case of a bug, be able to roll production back to a previous version where the bug may have been introduced.





So lets say I am team A and I introduced some new code which had a bug. You, on team B, come along and add on to my version with some new code because you know my version was the newest. Then I realize the bug a couple weeks later. I can roll back to the version previous to my version and fix the problem. Only thing is, I wipe out your changes. But with your versions of the file, you could easily put the changes back in.





It is somewhat the same with configurations. Certain files may be configured for debugging or production environments and it is a necessity to know which is which.





Seeing this need, Microsoft put it into the .NET products to help solve that problem.

We use the infragistics package. Their stuff is very visual, so they have tons of ways you can change the appearance of the controls. A bit cludgy to learn their objects, but ok. If the default microsoft stuff is a D+, then I give Infragistics a B-

I will discuss how the ObjectDataSource is ideal for integrating with existing multitier components. - First what you'll need to do is put the file names in a field in some sort of database table like Access or MS SQL.


- Then you can configure the data source of the DataList to that table. - One you've done that go into the Property Builder and set it to 3 columns for the repeat layout.


-Then in design mode, edit the template and remove the label that is bound to the file name.


- Add an ImageControl.


- Configure the DataBinding of the ImageURL to the field in your table that has the file names.


- Change the format to point to your file location (so if your images were in a folder called ';Images'; in your root you would format it like ';~/Images/{0}';

I have three kids and I know what you are saying..........we protect them at home with a lot of supervision and parental locks on the computer and TV. When they started going over to their friends houses I always asked the mom about internet usage and what she allowed her child to watch etc, if it wasn't the sme as my theory I politley asked that while my kids were there could she not allow certain shows etc and so far it has never been a problem. School is tricky you cant protect them from what other kids say and do but the school does monitor the computer usage and any videos watched. No matter what you do as a parent you can not always shelter your children all we can really do is teach them the values that we hold dear and let them grow up, let them know if something is inappropriate and tell them why when they ask, be honest with them without scaring them.Parents: how do you control what your kid does/sees on the net?
my daughters are too young yet but when they get older, i will not allow them on with out me being home, my pc will have a password so they cant even get on with out it. and if they are somewhere else, i will just have to trust them, trust that I taught them the right thing to do.
Yes it is possible but you have to be very diligent and not worry about what everyone else thinks and does! My children are only allowed 1 hour total of TV per day, AFTER they have completed all homework and chores. The shows they are allowed to watch are shows that I have approved of before hand. As far as the internet, they are allowed 1/2 hour per day and again, only websites I have approved of. If they ever try to go on another website that is not approved of, they lose their computer privileges for 1 week, and then we start over again! This has only happened once. My children do not wear the ';latest'; fashions. They dress nicely and appropriately. We have explained to them that unfortunately, the way we dress can draw either negative or positive attention. The same goes for toys- my girls do not have nor do they wish to have any toys that promote ';older'; behaviors. No Bratz dolls, no makeup before I feel they are ready, etc... Finally, we constantly discuss why its important to focus on God, family and school, and not get caught up in the whole game of ';boyfriends';. My goodness, in my daughter's kindergarten class, some of the moms think its cute when their children talk about having boyfriends or girlfriends. There is nothing cute about it and all it is doing is advocating something they are not ready for! How can you tell them when they are 12 that they can't have a boyfriend, when you sit there and tell them at 5 that its cute??? Our children have friends but their 1st and most important friends are eachother! We limit how much influence others have on them. This I believe is the key to keeping your kids exactly that, kids!
My son is five, so no worries now, but he knows his way around a computer. I do have nieces and nephews around the impressionable age and when they come over, they use the computer.





I have a mature content blocker. And I sweep by and check what site they're on.
I don't have a child yet, but this is how it was at my house growing up and how I intend to do it at my house when my child is at that age.





We had a computer that was kept in the family room where anyone could walk by at anytime. When our parents weren't home, we weren't allowed on the computer--they had it password protected. When they were home, we had a time limit each night. We knew that our parents could walk by anytime, and my dad made it a habit of coming over every 10 or 15 minutes and talking to us. He did this so he could see what we were doing. If anything was minimized and looked suspicious to him, he would make us open it so he could see. He also checked the history and cookies often to know what we were doing.





It seemed annoying at the time, but looking back I can see that it really helped keeps us off of inappropriate sites.





**Unfortunately you can't ever protect your kids 100%. At some point you just have to trust that you raised them to make smart choices.
Make sure that you have password protection and parental controls online. It's ok also to check the history of where your kids have been, but don't become obsessive and do it everyday. A certain amount of trust needs to be given, but if the trust is broken certain punishment such as you can only use the internet for school projects and under adult supervision only may have to be enforced. Just be cautious.
As far as school, kids only have access to certain things on the net. Their friends houses, I would have to know the parents are quite strict with such things before letting my child go to their house. If I know my kid's not going to be properly supervised, the only way they are going there is if my husband or I go as well.
To protect your kids from certain sites on the internet, you can do a parental block. This makes sure kids only go on ';kid friendly'; sites. Keep your foot down, and you will make a great parent.
